The location
Situated in the beautiful countryside of Aberdeenshire, Sauchen is a quiet community full of charm and character. With just over 200 houses in the village, it offers a peaceful setting that’s ideal for those who enjoy a slower pace of life.
Sauchen is a very family-friendly community, with the fantastic local Cluny Primary School and playpark. For those with slightly older children, secondary education is provided at Alford Academy, while those with little ones can benefit from under 5s meet-ups on Friday mornings at Dunecht School.
With Dunecht, Echt and Westill so close by, there are plenty of amenities within easy reach. Just a 5 minute drive away, you’ll find Dunecht, which has local stores and Jaff’s, a great bar and restaurant. A little further down the road you’ll find Westhill, which boasts a large Tesco supermarket, Marks & Spencer and Aldi, as well as a medical centre, two dental practices and a variety of bars and restaurants. A variety of additional shops and services are also available closeby in Alford, Kemnay, Monymusk and Inverurie.
With easy access to the city of Aberdeen, and Aberdeen International Airport only 14 miles away, you can make the most of life in the countryside but still stay well connected to the city. A commute to Aberdeen is under 17 miles, with your route passing through Westhill and Kingswells.
On the evenings and weekends, there are plenty of woodland walks in the surrounding area, such as Castle Fraser, Bennachie and Haughton country park. You’re also never too far from a cosy café where you can catch up with friends and family, and there is a range of restaurant and takeaway options nearby in Kemnay, Westhill and Alford to name a few.
If you love keeping active or have little ones to keep entertained, there are lots of recreational activities close to Sauchen. The Village Gym and Westdyke Leisure Centre are just a short drive away in Kingswells and Westhill, while Alford has its outstanding new Community Campus with a range of leisure facilities, including a swimming pool, football pitches and sports classes.
