Meet Nicola from Balgillo Heights

3rd Feb, 2022

Customer: Nicola

Housetype: ‘The Tewel

Development: Balgillo Heights, Broughty Ferry

After renting for over a decade, Nicola and her family decided it was time to invest in their own home in a new location and begin the life they had always dreamed of. With a new-build on their mind, the couple spotted a roadside sign for our Balgillo Heights development and just had to take a look! Nearly 7 months later, Nicola, her partner Brian and son, Josh, are all settled in their beautiful 3 bedroom ‘Tewel’ and enjoying exploring the desirable suburb of Broughty Ferry.

We recently caught up with Nicola to find out more about her favourite parts of their new home, as well as why they chose this development and their experience with buying from Kirkwood Homes…

What options were you considering when searching for your home, and why did you choose Broughty Ferry?

“Throughout our house hunting journey, we viewed a large mix of properties but ultimately decided we were set on buying a new build and starting totally fresh. When we met our sales advisor, Tom, we all agreed that ‘The Keir’ and ‘The Tewel’ suited our needs and lifestyle best - and after just one viewing of ‘The Tewel’ we had completely fallen in love!

“As we are not originally from Dundee, we had limited knowledge of all the areas that made up Tayside. But after a little research and only a few visits to the development, we soon realised how great of a place Broughty Ferry was and decided it would be the perfect place to raise our son, Josh.”

What made you choose ‘The Tewel’? What do you love most about this housestype?

“Initially, we were shown the floor plans and straight away we liked the look of the layout - it was a great size and seemed like exactly what we were looking for, but we needed to see it in the flesh. We travelled up to Aberdeen to see ‘The Tewel’ showhome at Kirkwood’s Countesswells development which was great in helping us visualise the space. It had been beautifully decorated and this helped us envision our family living in this home.

“We were particularly impressed by the high ceilings in the living room. We knew how rare these were in new builds so this was a major selling point for us - it made the house feel even more spacious and grand.

“Equally, we love our beautiful south-facing garden which gets the sun ALL day - it’s great for spending time outdoors, especially in the warmer months. Inside, it’s so open - the size of the rooms is great and in no way comparable to other housebuilders in the area. We viewed a couple of these and were very disappointed by the tiny rooms, cheap fixtures and lacking finishes.

“In our new home, the finishes are top-notch! The internal doors are just lovely, we have glass doors in the living room and kitchen, with the rest being Kirkwood’s iconic full oak veneered doors - my favourite! Our kitchen has been finished to the highest standard, with soft closing cupboard doors, fantastic appliances and a really high spec throughout. We really don’t have a bad thing to say - everything has been perfect.”

What made you want to move to Broughty Ferry?

“We had visited Broughty Ferry a few times and always thought it would be a beautiful place to live. The development is placed just outside of the town but still within walking distance to Broughty Ferry and a bus stop, providing us with great transport links to neighbouring towns and bigger cities.

“There are so many benefits to being a bit further out of the city, we have amazing views of horses and their stables which are so peaceful to watch - you feel really immersed in countryside life, yet it’s only a few minutes walk to Sainsbury’s - it’s the best of both worlds!”

What is there to do nearby?

“There is an abundance of great shops and lovely restaurants all within a short distance from our home. We especially like taking a stroll into town and enjoying one of the many coffee shops with outdoor seating.

“The local beach is also extremely close and we love spending time here together as a family. Josh adores being on the coast so it’s a great place to make memories and get some fresh air.”

Is there a sense of community within Balgillo Heights?

We really couldn’t ask for better neighbours - everyone is very pleasant and friendly. They are always waving to say hello and there are constantly children out playing on their bikes which is a lovely sight to see.”

What attracted you to the development?

“The fantastic reputation of the local schools was a main pull to this location for our family. We moved from a really small village, so there weren't many schooling options for us. This made us really set our minds to moving somewhere that offered our son a great education. He is now at a lovely primary school in Broughty Ferry which is within very close proximity to the development - he absolutely loves it and it’s great for us as parents too.”

What was the buying process like and what impressed you most about Kirkwood?

“Our sales advisor, Tom, was absolutely fantastic - he was so responsive to any of our questions and has always been as helpful as possible. Kirkwood were very good at keeping us on track and well informed from start to finish, we would totally recommend them!”
