A catch up with Jamie, our newest Charleston Grange resident

1st Jun, 2021

Customer: Jamie Scott

Housetype:The Buchan”

Development: Charleston Grange

After welcoming a new baby into the family, Jamie Scott and his wife, Tracy, felt they had outgrown their 2 bedroom home in Cove and the time was right to upsize. On their daily dog walks, the couple watched as the Charleston Grange development began to take shape and started to wonder if it could be the place for them.

While navigating the challenges of working from home and becoming parents, they quickly matched their lifestyle needs to that of ‘The Buchan’ housetype - which has been their home since last September.

We caught up with Jamie to find out how they are settling in, the story behind finding their dream home and their experience with Kirkwood...

What options were you considering when you decided to move?

“We wanted to stay in Cove, we knew that much. Originally a new build wasn’t in the picture for us - until the moment we saw this house and that was it!

“The Charleston Grange development was on our dog walking route. Every day on our daily outing we would see the building work progressing. The more familiar we were with the development and the homes taking shape, the more we felt excited!

“We decided that either the ‘The Craig’ or ‘The Buchan’ would be the best fit for us as we were looking for a 3 bed detached property. My wife, Tracy, then persuaded me to register on the Kirkwood website to receive the development updates, which were especially important due to Covid, as we weren’t sure if the restrictions were limiting viewings. In just 20 minutes, we had a message from Michelle, a sales advisor at Kirkwood, asking us a few questions about what sort of home we were looking for and inviting us to come check out both ‘The Craig’ which was the showhome, and an empty tour of the newly built ‘Buchan’.

“After this we had a tough decision to make as we liked certain aspects of each home equally. Eventually we finally decided on ‘The Buchan’ and chose the very house we had been looking at everyday on our dog walks!”

What made you choose ‘The Buchan’? What do you love most about the house?

“The size of the rooms has really impressed us. We came from a relatively small 2 bedroom mid-terrace where we had very little storage space, so that was something we were really looking for in our next home. Now we have multiple storage cupboards, built-in and walk-in wardrobes and even the kitchen has so much worktop and cabinet space which we loved.

“I think the final decision between ‘The Craig’ and ‘The Buchan’ came down to only a few things, as they were both of such high quality that it made the decision very hard. Although we loved the fact that ‘The Craig’ master en-suite had incorporated the bath, we were persuaded by the layout of the kitchen / dining room in ‘The Buchan’, as it best suited our busy family lifestyle.”

What made you want to stay in Cove?

“We had always mentioned when discussing moving that we already felt settled in Cove and would like to live here long term. When I eventually go back to work, I am on the right side of the city for an easy commute too. We also love the outside spaces that Cove has to offer - like the woodland walks and the iconic coastal path which the dogs love just as much as us. It’s good to get some fresh air when working for home, so the beautiful views make it all the more enjoyable.

“Although Cove is pretty quiet, it still has that small town feel and everything you need is within such a close proximity. There is a really nice butcher on the High Street along with a salon and a few other little shops - it feels very self-sustaining and there is becoming less and less of a need to travel into the city as often.”

What was the main thing that attracted you to this development?

“Although we only moved 5 minutes down the road, we feel so much more secure within the Charleston Grange development. The way it is set just off the main road, yet is really quiet and peaceful, is perfect for us as our young daughter begins to play more outside and we feel comfortable knowing how safe she would be.”

Do you feel like there is a sense of community in Charleston Grange?

“Considering there hasn’t been much opportunity to really get to know our neighbours, there is definitely still a friendly and welcoming feeling within the development. We have taken in parcels for one another and then managed to have a little chat when collecting them or a wave whenever we pass in the streets, which is a common occurrence since we are in a cul-de-sac. There are a lot of families with young children much alike to us, which will be lovely once all the kids are a bit more grown up and can play together.”

What stood out to you when buying from Kirkwood?

“Michelle, our sales advisor, was extremely easy to deal with and informative. She was always on hand to deal with our questions, no matter how silly!

“Around the time of the moving process, my daughter unfortunately had to go in for an operation which ended up delaying some dates. Kirkwood were very understanding and completely flexible with our circumstances, which we were very grateful for.”
